NETFLIX Free Resources
He said video-on-demand ...
He said video-on-demand services that cable and satellite TV providers are launching represent a longer-term competitive issue because movie studios and other content providers want sell directly to consumers, bypassing services like Netflix.
``Right now, the service is a great, compelling service,'' he said. ``But when you look at what technology is going to be and what it is capable of, investors have to ask how compelling is (the Netflix service) going to be five years from now.''
love NetFlix. When I heard several months ago that this online DVD rental and delivery service didn't have enough subscribers to break even, I began pitching it to all my friends--even those without DVD players. "A player's just $100 at Costco!" I told them.
Turns out I'm not the only NetFlix fan. Loyal customers like me are keeping this business afloat even during these bleak economic times--and long after similar efforts such as Webvan and Kozmo bit the dust.
So what does NetFlix do? It sends you a limited amount of DVDs via snail mail for a fixed monthly fee ($14 for 2 DVDs at a time, $20 for 3 DVDs at a time, and so on). You choose movies on NetFlix's site (which provides reviews and recommendations), and rank them in your Queue (so NetFlix knows which ones to send you first). The best part: You can keep the DVDs for as long as you want! This means: No late fees! And no more wandering around Blockbuster on Saturday night with no idea what you want to see! When you're done with the DVDs, you send them back in special NetFlix-provided envelopes (no postage required!). I've found it incredibly convenient, and a real bargain, especially since I'm a frequent movie watcher.
